Little Things That Aren't So Little
Little things in your journey to survive a competitive world that make life worth living.
It’s been a week since I gave my tenth Actuarial Exam. It has also been the tenth time I have felt like I had to start over in some aspects of my life after the exam.
When you work towards big life goals, it is easier to leave the little things behind. The finish line seems to be the only thing that matters. Life looks exciting on the other side of achieving your goals, but it leads us to forget the little moments in the present that aren’t, in fact, so little.
This week, I encourage you to think about the things you take for granted in life.
Stop and express gratitude for these things as you move through the days.
You will realise that there is more to be grateful for in life than you think.
As
says,“And life will ask a lot of you,
But it is worth it to go awake.
Do not travel asleep.
You will miss so many things.
Keep your eyes open.
Keep your heart open too.
There are so many things
the journey will reveal to you.”
Little Things That Aren’t So Little
Being able to sleep in your own bed at night.
The first sip of morning coffee/tea.
Hearing “I’m proud of you” from a loved one.
A conversation that leaves you feeling more energetic than before.
Casually strolling around the neighbourhood you grew up in and being around friends you grew up with.
Someone saying, “You made a difference in my life.”
“I got you.”
The sound of waves. (Best ASMR that nature has to offer)
‘Phone free’ time 30 mins before going to bed.
Eating your favourite home-cooked meal.
Holding the door for the person entering a store behind you.
Having a “day off to focus on rest.”
Sharing an experience with a stranger. (For me, it was recognising familiar faces on the same metro ride to college every day back in 2019. There’s something oddly comforting about knowing that you’re not alone, especially in the mundane moments of life)
