Finding Home
An invitation for you to choose to find peace in the little things and moments of life.
I have been spending most of my time indoors lately. I hardly go out to catch up with friends because many do not live in the same town anymore. It’s funny how this place felt more like “home” a few years ago, when some of my favourite people lived within a distance that could be covered by a simple 15-minute walk.
Cambridge dictionary tells me that home is an “apartment where you live, especially with your family.” But home can be anything really. I know many people who do not live as close to their loved ones as they would like. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t allowed to experience what safety and peace feels like again.
Home can be a place where you feel safe enough to be yourself.
Home can be a space where you don’t feel the need to rush through life, even if it is just for a moment.
Simply breathing next to your loved ones can be home.
Home can be moments where you lift yourself instead of pulling yourself down.
Home can be inside you.
Places/Experiences where I have found home in my life
My Zen Corner
During winter, I would sit on my yoga mat in a little corner of my room, where the sun would shine bright through the glass window till noon. My little zen corner a.k.a, Home.
My Personal Library
My personal library is probably one of the things I am extremely proud of. When I see it, I forget the need to rush through life. I only see words that can transport me to a world where ‘chaos’ is an unknown concept.
Nature, especially on a warm winter afternoon
Nothing speaks to the feeling of home for me more than sitting around trees on a warm winter afternoon. For some reason, I have always loved afternoons, no matter the season. Everything looks more vibrant, which fills me with peace.
Peace is where home is.
Beach
Simply closing my eyes and listening to the sound of the waves.
The best place to dive deep into yourself. A place where you feel like home, regardless of the weather outside.
Routine, when surrounded by change
In my life, change has been a war zone that I always step into unprepared. There is so much doubt. There is no peace. But these are the moments when I feel grateful for the little things I get to do daily, like drinking my morning coffee, moving my body, the luxury of being healthy enough to plan and follow a routine, and also the luxury of being 20 steps away from seeing my parents. A sense of familiarity that I am quite used to at this point.
When you embark on a journey to find home, you will notice that it can already be found in your surroundings and your own life. Maybe there are bigger and better things on the other side of the mountain, but it doesn’t forbid you from choosing peace and comfort; from choosing home, right where you are.
Comment below the places where you find home. I would love to know.
See you next Tuesday!

For some reason, where my mum is feels like home. I have never lived in my mum's apartment. She moved there to retire. However, whenever I walk through the door, I'm home. She's my mother and I am her daughter. All my other hats or roles strip away, and I become like a kid again.
Congratulations on the 1K subs, Mansi, and thanks for sharing my post. This is an excellent essay. For me, home is simple: where I am, with whom I am, at any given point. I try to be deliberate in life, choosing where I am, what I'm doing, and the people I am with. I don't like these imposed on me, and that I choose these makes them home.
