When you read this, I’ll be a few days away from turning 25. Every year, I start my birthday with an intention. This time, it is to discover who I am beyond my career. I feel like I have been losing myself amid the chaos of the world and I am really hoping to change that this year. I came across
’s post on facts about him on his 35th birthday which inspired me to write my own and share with you this week. The list below mostly represents who I am beyond a corporate employee and a student actuary.I am slowly building my personal library. The intention behind this library is for my loved ones to find at least one book they resonate with, no matter the season of life they are in. My library currently has 54 books.
I fear the limelight. It is something I have struggled with since I was a child. Now, I have reached a stage where I can identify my fear when it kicks in and act accordingly. I recently shot a podcast on which I was invited as an Associate Actuary to talk about the ups and downs of Actuarial journey. Baby steps.
I believe that a single lifetime is not enough for me to learn everything that I wish to learn. So, I try to be intentional with my free time and learn as much as I can.
I am obsessed with world maps. I can stare at one for hours and not be bored. They let me dream.
I love building cosy spaces around me. You’ll always find a scented candle, peaceful music and lots of warm lighting in my room.
I am neither a party person nor a drinker. A book and a cosy corner (preferably at home) are my best friends.
I am extremely good at managing my time. It does come with the challenge of struggling to slow down as I plan my days to the T. I am slowly learning to embrace the idea of rest in my life.
I love collecting mugs of different shapes, sizes and colours.
I don’t believe that I was born a genius. I am a creature of habit. Every good thing I have ever achieved in my life isthrough consistency.
My favourite TV show is Schitts Creek. I have been seeing plenty of reels online about - “maybe that’s the whole point.” Schitts Creek was that realisation for me.
My guilty pleasure is watching Reality TV.
I am what people call a “rushed reader”. I have recently been mindful of my reading speed though, because reading isn’t a contest or a to-do list item.
I went on my first international trip at age 11. I haven’t stopped dreaming about travelling the world since.
I am a strong believer of “what’s meant for you will be yours”. I have been in situations where I could have almost missed the mark but I made it. I have also been in situations where I knew I was going to excel but I failed.
The words I think about the most are, “Life is beautiful and I do have time.” It is where I aspire to be one day.
I am not a morning person. If you find me awake at 6 am, know that it wasn’t by choice.
If I had to choose between sitting on the floor or sitting on a chair, I’d always choose sitting on the floor.
Crying is how I process every emotion. I cry when I am happy, sad, angry, scared.
I don’t eat to live. I live to eat.
My first-ever friend in this world is still my best friend, twenty-three years later.
The only musical instrument I know how to play is the Ukulele. I might learn another one soon.
I earned my first-ever salary at the age of 21. Four years of corporate trauma aside, I learned the value of financial independence (especially for women) really early on in life.
I started my newsletter when I took a break from my first corporate job. It is hands down one of the best decisions I have made in life so far.
Most of my newsletters are inspired by my journal entries. Creativity comes to me more easily when I have a pen in my hand instead of having a laptop screen in front.
I have no shame to admit that I still live with my parents. They are the sole reason why I am still sane, despite working and studying full-time for the last four years alongside managing my side hustle as a writer.
THIS WEEK’s RECOMMENDATIONS
If you enjoy reading Unwind, I would love it if you consider recommending the publication to your readers. Simply go to your dashboard > Recommendations > Manage > Add recommendation > Unwind.
Mansi, your writing on the matter is inspiring. It gives perspective and a peek into the life of a wonderful juggler. We can take some, empathise on some, consider some as alternatives.
Wish you a very Happy 25th!
I share so many of these with you Mansi! Lovely to get to you know you even more! 🙏
